Featured artist Adele Burdon

Adele graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a BA Hons in Interior Design and previously and HND from Newcastle College in Spacial design.

After a career in Interior Architecture Adele returned to her home town of Hexham in Northumberland to bring up her family. Here she became interested in printmaking and took several courses in various printmaking techniques, here at Newcastle University. Initially concentrating on Photo etching, also experimenting with lino cuts and etching, and more recently mono printing. Adele is constantly experimenting with different techniques working at ‘The Hearth’ in Horsley, taking inspiration from the surrounding landscape of Northumberland, Cumbria and beyond.

Adele enjoys exploring the endless possibilities of Monotype printing using a variety of techniques to create abstracted landscapes, with rich textures taken from found objects including bug eaten leaves and other plant life picked up on countryside walks. Using oil based inks on Fabriano paper and constantly experimenting and tinkering with the plate until an image reveals itself. As the landscape is not confined to a viewpoint it escapes the boundaries of the plate. Unexpected and surprising results are often a bonus, helping to create an atmospheric print which is unrepeatable making each image a one off piece of art.
