Summer Exhibition 2020
Looking ahead we are again planning to arrange for our annual Members Summer Exhibition which will take place in July/August. Full details with entry forms etc. will be included in the May bulletin.
Booking forms and further details will be available in the September bulletin.
Following another excellent response from our members, this year’s summer exhibition began with the submission of works on 13th July (see photos above). Thirty-one artists submitted 56 works. During the hand in members were invited for refreshments, hosted by the Contemporary Art Club in the Learning room. It was interesting to hear about the various views and opinions held by others on the art scene.
A group of volunteers set out the artwork to maximise on presentation then, working in two teams, proceeded to hang the works. With some minor adjustments the exhibition was in place by 3pm the same day.
The perennial preview took place in the evening of 15th July. Hosted by our Chairman, Geoff Mills, this was attended by over 70 members and guests who enjoyed the evening, viewing the work accompanied by a light buffet with drinks.
A good number of members volunteered to invigilate during the course of the exhibition, which at the time of writing is on-going. The Exhibition will end on 2nd August.
Many thanks to all those who submitted art work, our volunteer organisers and helpers and the galley staff for the loan of tools and equipment and other furniture and facilities that helped the process run smoothly.
The Summer Exhibition 2019 opened with a busy preview on last night between 6:30 and 8:30pm in the Long Gallery. Lots of the Friends and their partners (and friends) came along to enjoy a glass of wine and a chat on a beautiful summer evening.
Several Friends were photographed by their work and we are hoping to feature them in future bulletins and posts on the website and Facebook.
We noticed as well that the Long Gallery has recently added a frosted covering to the windows along one side of the gallery. This diffuses the light and makes it much easier to view the works on display.
The Exhibition is open Monday to Saturday 10am – 5pm until 2nd August.
Saturday 14th July was the hand-in day for pieces for the summer Exhibition 2019. The Hanging Committee curated and hung the exhibition on the same day.
They go to great lengths to make the exhibition as cohesive as possibleand this can be quite a feat with the diversity of work both subject matter and media.
I think they did a great job.
Members are invited to enter their recent work to be shown in the Long Gallery.
The following two-dimensional media are acceptable:
- original prints
but NOT photographs of your artwork.
Please see conditions of entry.
The exhibition will run from 15th July – 3rd August 2019
Hand in day: Saturday 13th July 09.30-12.00
Preview: Monday 15th July 18.30–‐20.30
Please note, This is a Friends only exhibition. However, if there are any non-members you know who wish to exhibit they have the opportunity to join in by completing the Membership form and paying the appropriate membership fee.
