Learn how to paint a loose impressionistic landscape in oils with Lindsey McLaren

Strangford Lough by Lindsay McLaren

Saturday 26 October, 11.30 till 2.30pmLearning Room at the gallery

Lindsey McLaren is a North East-based contemporary impressionist artist who has exhibited at the Alnmouth Arts Festival, Arts Centre Washington and the Customs House in South Shields. Her work can be viewed at http://www.lindseymclaren.co.uk and a collection of her oil paintings will be exhibited at the Bonny Comet in Low Fell, Gateshead throughout Autumn.

She enjoys painting outdoors to depict scenes as they appear in the moment and has developed a painting style, which enables her to capture scenes quickly before light and weather change the view.

In this studio workshop, Lindsey will teach you how to prepare and develop quick techniques to paint a loose impressionist landscape in oils* on a small canvas.

You will learn how to plan your composition and simplify your painting to maintain a focal point using composition guidelines. Photographs of landscapes and coastal scenes will be available, or you may bring your own images. The artist will discuss how to prepare to paint quickly to help you loosen your painting technique.

For this 3-hour workshop, you will be working small-scale on 7 x 5-inch canvas boards which will be provided by the artist, alongside paper palettes. Oil paints will also be provided, but if you wish to bring your own, please do so. Attendees will be required to bring their own paintbrushes. *As you will be working in oils, you can leave your finished works at the gallery to dry or if you wish to take your painting home on the day, please bring a plastic box big enough to hold the canvas flat.

Charge: £20 for Friends, £25 for non-members
