an update from Lindsey McLaren
Lindsey McLaren hosted our painting impressionistic landscape in oils workshop in 2024. She originally trained in illustration and graphic design but her creative journey took a personal turn when she inherited her father’s oil paints. Since then, she has embraced painting as her primary medium, developing a style that celebrates the quiet beauty of nature and the intimate connection between place and memory.

Much of Lindsey’s inspiration comes from the dramatic coastlines and rolling countryside of the North East. Long walks often lead to sketches and plein air studies that capture those fleeting moments when light transforms the familiar — a solitary tree, the shifting sea, a field brushed with heather. A recent visit to Scotland inspired a striking seascape, where violet heather and wind-swept grasses evoke the serenity of her time away.
While landscapes remain central to her practice, Lindsey’s work has expanded to include expressive oil portraits of beloved pets. Each piece seeks to capture not only likeness but spirit — the glint of an eye, the warmth of light, and the sense of companionship that animals bring.
Lindsey is currently exhibiting in the group show Winter’s Trail at The Badger in the Wall Gallery, Clapham. Her newly redesigned website showcases her growing collection of works and reflects her ongoing exploration of nature, light, and life’s quieter moments. https://www.lindseymclaren.co.uk/
