The Jerwood Collection (jerwood.org/Jerwoodcollection/) is a preeminent collection of modern British art, offering the group an unparallelled opportunity to work with a range of major artworks by British artists. Unlike most other professions or vocations every artist becomes an artist in different ways and at different times in their life. Some artists are art-makers all the time; others have relationships to the creative process which vary in their intensity, incidence and fluidity.

L-INK were curious to understand the turning points and pivotal moments in the lives of artists that were transformational, specifically, the ways in which artists have progressed their practices through pathways they have taken, in both formal and informal education and their own lived experiences. HAPPY! also celebrates the works of young artists at different stages of their arts development, in homage to Victor Pasmore’s 1957 Art Education Exhibition at the Hatton Gallery. As part of this project, one class from three different North East schools has worked with the Hatton on an in-depth exploration of selected artworks from the Jerwood Collection. Artworks made by pupils are also displayed as part of the exhibition.
The exhibition, HAPPY! runs at the Hatton Gallery until 8 May.
