Curtained Clouds on Inner Farne Islands

29th October 2022, 12.30 – 4 pm. break at 3 pm for tea and cakes.
Learning Room at the Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Ruth is a well renowned Northumbrian Artist with a large following. Her paintings sell all over the World. She’s recognised for her vivid use of colour and impressionistic style, especially her landscapes of Northumberland and the Outer Hebrides.

Summer Shades and Blue, Bath House Howick

Her work in the Hebrides has brought her considerable attention and during the pandemic she produced her first book – a sell-out – The Outer Hebrides Captured, in happy conjunction with the poet, Peter Rees. A new book, Northumberland Coast Captured has joined this on the gallery bookshelves.

Born in Zambia, Ruth trained in fashion and built an award-winning interior designer business in Newcastle. Having worked and travelled in many countries across the globe, absorbing cultures, colours and the beauty of the natural world, she now works happily painting in oils, always from experience of the countryside she loves.

The Workshop

Learn simple and dynamic approaches to painting with oils, responding to the beautiful Northumbrian landscape.

The course’s step-by-step approach will feature demonstrations and exercises at each stage. It is a great opportunity to build your confidence, loosen up and widen your painting repertoire. You will explore different methods of applying oil paint to enhance your understanding of how it behaves as a medium. You will gain insight into how swapping a brush for a palette knife can have as much impact on the mood and tone of a piece as colour can.

Whether you are a beginner in oil paints or would like to build your confidence working with them, this course is designed to inspire and treat your creative self.

Cost: £20 – Materials are provided. If you’re interested in the tour or a place at the workshop email josephinecousin@googlemail.com.
