Report on Weaving Workshop with Janis Embleton – 22 June 2019

The Workshop was well attended.  Janis very kindly and patiently led us through the process of weaving.  She had prepared the looms for us and had brought a wonderful selection of yarns and threads.  Some participants had had no experience of weaving but produced some amazing and unique pieces of work based on a beach theme.

Have a read through the participants’ reviews:

I haven’t visited the Hatton Gallery for a while but when I saw the weaving workshop advertised I was tempted to sign up. Welcome drinks were offered by the ‘Friends of the Hatton’ and there was opportunity to chat before the session started. Small looms were already set up for us thanks to our experienced tutor, Janis Embleton, who also provided a lovely range of textured yarns. Our seascapes evolved with her kind support throughout the session which went by so quickly as we were so absorbed in the process and in experimenting with what was on offer. I loved integrating some of my finds from Roker Beach: rope and driftwood. Janis was very encouraging to us all and I will definitely come back to other sessions at the Hatton. Oh! And there were strawberries and cream at the end, to reward our efforts! A wonderful escape on a Saturday afternoon. Thank you.

I attended the above workshop on Saturday and have to say Thank You for putting on such an event.  I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop, which was very informative and great fun.  It was also an opportunity to meet other ladies with similar interests.  Just wish it had been on for a little longer. Thank you also to Josephine for organising.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable workshop. Extremely well organised with all materials provided and a set task taught. It was amazing how different each participant’s work was!

Janis, the tutor, was approachable and very well organised, keeping us on track so that we could complete our weaving in  the limited time available. A lovely relaxing but productive afternoon. I’d happily do the same workshop again but maybe with an extra hour in length to ensure no-one needed to rush to finish.

Many thanks to Janis and also to Josephine for organising attendees and delicious refreshments.

We had a fantastic time at the weaving workshop. The workshop was well organised and really well taught. Janis was very attentive and always there with an extra tip or piece of advice. Company was excellent and the lovely strawberries and drink really topped off an excellent afternoon. Looking forward to the next craft afternoon, thank you!
